Imagine my delight when a friend asked me if I wanted a box of old German books and in it was ‘Der Moderne Stil’ published by Von Julius Hoffman Jr. in Stuttgart, Germany. The book was full of pictures of modern style furniture, pottery, bookplates, jewelry, metalwork, wallpaper and illustrations by artists from all over Europe. The modern style for Julius Hoffman Jr. was art nouveau or Jugenstil in German and here are my favorite selections:
