The Circus is Coming!

I love clowns and the circus, especially the old posters and illustrations that got you excited about its coming to town. I don’t have any old posters but I do have a collection of illustrations and here are some of my favorites.

This one is titled ‘The Street Clown’ from the painting by Leon Guipon. I love the hat with a rabbit in it on the head of the clown, and the scallop shell on the ground for collecting coins.

These are from an old American school reader book from the 1950s. Imagine running into a clown with a pony and a cart. Just an average day in the life of a kid!

Donn P Crane did some beautiful illustrations for the My Book House series of books for children.

These last are from an old card game. Aren’t they charming?

About redbudart

I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, just outside of Portland, Oregon. My usual interests are cooking, wine, horticulture, art, and old books, but lately I've been obsessed with saving for a piece of land, so I can practice sustainability and learn to live as close to the land as possible, and then help others to do the same. To relax I listen to Dharma talks. Namaste!
